PUNKTum: The Photographic Apparatus for Irreversible Traces

PUNKTum is a lensless photographic apparatus that does not record light, but consequence. On a standard Korean keyboard, the keys for the Korean ‘’ (ㅅㅐㅇ, life) and the German ‘TOD’ (death) occupy the same coordinates. Whether one intends life or encounters death, each strike is irreversibly inscribed.

Here, a singular point (PUNKT) meets its surrounding field (um), from the German. What remains is not an image, but a scar.  PUNKTum accumulates these traces without judgement. Between birth unremembered and death unrememberable, it asserts that the act of living leaves marks that cannot be undone.
