Photographic Spatiality

To me, the vertical line is an act of will, a force that resists. It is a refusal of the world as it is, a reach for something just beyond our sight.
Holding the camera, I cautiously shifted and twisted my posture until a particular surface within the frame converged into a single thread, and then vanished. On those lines and planes, spaces I’ve discovered with my own movements, light and shadow begin to wander, as if tracing the passage of time, recurrence, and the faint whisper of an invisible world.

내게 수직선은 곧 의지의 표명, 거스르는 힘이다. 그것은 세계의 일방적 수용을 거부하고, 보이는 것 너머에 닿으려는 의지다.
카메라를 든 채, 화면 속 특정 면적이 가느다란 선 하나로 수렴해 끝내 묘연해질 때까지 조심스레 몸을 옮기고 비틀었다. 빛과 그림자는 몸짓으로 드러난 선과 면 위를 거닐며, 시간과 회귀, 그리고 보이지 않는 세계의 기척을 더듬는 듯했다.
